Juaboso SHS Board Engages DCE Over Accommodation Challenges as Student Population Surges

The Board of Governors of Juaboso Senior High School paid a courtesy visit to the District Chief Executive for Juaboso, Hon. Alexander Adu-Quist, on Wednesday, 19th August 2026, to express appreciation for his leadership and continued support towards the administration and development of the school.

The engagement, however, also provided an opportunity for the Board to draw the attention of the DCE to the growing accommodation challenges confronting the school as student numbers continue to increase.

The Headmaster explained that the school’s population had risen considerably, with the latest enrolment alone exceeding 2,500 students. With the existing facilities under increasing pressure, the school is facing difficulties in accommodating all students adequately.

The Board therefore appealed to the DCE to consider allowing some students to temporarily occupy a newly constructed building on the school’s premises, as a possible short-term measure to ease the pressure on the school’s existing accommodation facilities.

Members of the Board further explained that the situation sometimes leaves the school with limited options when new students are admitted, since turning them away is not considered a viable option. As a result, the school has had to improvise by converting some classrooms into temporary hostel accommodation to accommodate students.

Responding to the concerns, Hon. Alexander Adu-Quist welcomed the Board and expressed appreciation for the engagement. He explained that the new facility was originally intended for another purpose, particularly to support the relocation of the girls’ school located near the new stadium, where noise and other disturbances have become a concern for teaching and learning.

The DCE, however, acknowledged the accommodation difficulties confronting Juaboso SHS and assured the Board that the concerns would be given due consideration. He indicated that Management would deliberate on the matter to determine a practical way forward that would address the immediate needs of the school while also taking into account the original purpose of the facility.

The engagement highlighted the growing demand for educational infrastructure in the district and the need for continued collaboration among the Assembly, school authorities and other stakeholders to ensure that increasing student numbers do not place undue pressure on existing facilities.
