Juaboso District Assembly and Police engage transport unions to strengthen discipline, enforce safety standards, and improve transport operations.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Juaboso, Hon. Alexander Adu-Quist, in collaboration with the District Police Commander, has held a stakeholder engagement with transport unions in the district to address emerging concerns within the transport sector and promote order, safety, and harmony.

The meeting, held on 31st March 2026 at the DCE’s Office, brought together leadership of transport unions to deliberate on operational challenges, compliance issues, and the need to strengthen discipline within the sector.

A key concern raised during the engagement was the increasing practice of some drivers picking up passengers outside designated terminals, particularly during early morning hours, thereby bypassing established queuing systems and operational protocols. The DCE emphasized the need for adherence to laid-down procedures to ensure fairness and order among transport operators.

The District Police Commander, on his part, underscored the importance of enforcement and recommended strict action against drivers who operate outside approved guidelines, including those who load passengers at unauthorized hours.

Representatives of the transport unions acknowledged the challenges and expressed concern over resistance from some drivers when corrective measures are enforced. They called for collective support in addressing indiscipline within the sector for the overall benefit of the district.

The Police Command further advised drivers and unions to prioritize routine vehicle maintenance, including regular checks on tires, brakes, fuel systems, insurance, and licensing, to ensure roadworthiness and enhance passenger safety.

In addition, concerns were raised regarding the use of certain vehicle types, particularly Voxy vehicles, for long-distance travel. It was proposed that such vehicles be regulated, with suggestions for designated operational schedules to ensure safety and efficiency.

The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts by the Assembly and security agencies to strengthen transport regulation, improve road safety, and ensure a more organized and reliable transport system within the Juaboso District.
