Juaboso District Assembly Engages Bonsu Nkwanta Community on Development and Market Relocation Initiative
The Juaboso District Assembly, led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Alexander Adu Quist, together with the District Coordinating Director and a team of technical officers, held a community engagement with residents of Bonsu Nkwanta on 6th May 2026 at the Pentecost Central Church.
The engagement formed part of the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to promote structured development and improve living conditions across communities within the district.
Focus on Proper Planning and Development
A key highlight of the meeting was a presentation by the District Physical Planner, who emphasized the importance of proper land use planning and layout demarcation. Using examples from other communities within the district, he demonstrated how planned settlements improve accessibility, facilitate infrastructure development, and increase land value.
He noted that unregulated land sales and haphazard construction in Bonsu Nkwanta have contributed to poor road networks and congestion, making it difficult to implement development projects. He assured residents that the Assembly is ready to support the planning of new areas within the community at no cost, to ensure orderly growth moving forward.

Proposed Market Relocation
The DCE also introduced plans to relocate the market currently operating along the roadside to a more suitable and organized location. According to him, the relocation will help reduce congestion, improve safety, and create space for proper road development.
He emphasized that the process will be carried out in consultation with the community, ensuring that all affected groups, including traders and mobile money operators, are adequately considered in the new arrangement.
Community Concerns and Contributions
Residents and stakeholders welcomed the initiative but raised several concerns that required clarification. These included the need for broader stakeholder engagement, particularly among religious leaders, as well as questions regarding compensation for affected properties, recognition of surveyors, and the need for prior notice before any demolition exercises.
Other issues discussed included electricity extension to newly developed areas, high reconnection costs, and the need for effective communication to avoid misunderstandings during implementation.
Assurances from the Assembly
Responding to the concerns, Hon. Alexander Adu Quist assured the community that the Assembly will adopt a transparent and inclusive approach. He stated that:
- Adequate notice will be given before any demolition.
- Community members will be actively involved throughout the planning and implementation process.
- Measures will be taken to minimize destruction where possible.
- The initiative will be carried out without political bias or favoritism.
He further encouraged residents to obtain building permits, stressing that proper documentation protects property owners and facilitates access to financial services.
On infrastructure, the DCE disclosed that Bonsu Nkwanta has been captured under planned electricity extension projects and that efforts will be made to engage relevant agencies to address power-related concerns.

Community Shows Support
Traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and residents expressed general support for the initiative. Many participants acknowledged the need for proper planning and pledged their cooperation to ensure the success of the project.
The Bonsu Nkwantahene also assured the Assembly of his readiness to support the initiative and indicated that available lands could be considered for development purposes.
Next Steps
As part of the next phase, the Assembly announced that a team of engineers will visit Bonsu Nkwanta on 14th May 2026 to begin preliminary assessments. A follow-up engagement is also expected to broaden participation and strengthen collaboration with community stakeholders.
